Designers Studio - highlights new designs and home textile trends

Much of the booth space is booked months before the start of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2007, one of the leading home textiles trade events in Asia. The show runs 29 - 31 August 2007 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre with 80,500 sqm of space. Participants, including home textile manufacturers and designers, will showcase: bed, bath, table and kitchen linens; wall and window decorations; upholstery fabric and carpets; interior design and textile handicrafts; home textile related products and services; and home textile design.

While the show is a major draw for international exhibitors seeking international buyers, it also provides an opportunity to meet high-quality Chinese buyers. As China's population grows wealthier, home textiles are taking an important position in Chinese homes and hotels. Many exhibitors are looking to Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles to take advantage of that trend.

"We joined the show to look for opportunities for getting new clients in China," said Mr Kevin Huang, from Full Color Co., one of Taiwan's biggest professional dye sublimation printers. Full Color will display several unique items at the show including flame repellent and light resistant print fabrics.

Mr Erben Yurdakol, president of Acrosun Co. Ltd. from Turkey said this will be his first year at Intertextile Shanghai, following two very successful years exhibiting at the show's parent event, Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Germany. Acrosun produces middle to high range bed linens and plans to showcase a new Ramie fabric that is organic, breathes exceptionally well and is as soft as cotton, Mr Yurdakol said. He added that the Heimtextil events, including Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles, attract quality buyers interested in higher end home textiles: "Messe Frankfurt shows are well known and bring good buyers from all over the world."

Designer's Studio - an opportunity for participating exhibitors to highlight their latest designs

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles will feature two special design orientated elements this year, the 2007 China International Home Textiles Design Competition and a special Designer's Studio, a zone dedicated to companies directly involved in the design process.

Exhibitors joining the Designer's Studio will have the chance to show off their designs and capabilities to the more than 30,000 visitors expected. Mr Tristan Goodfellow, with Diane Harrison Co, in the UK, said his company will participate in the Designer's Studio to market their designs to Chinese companies. "We have been successful at Heimtextil in Frankfurt and want to expand on this," he said. "The Designer's Studio is the perfect opportunity to meet with existing customers and to put designs in front of our potential customers." Dianne Harris Co. creates CAD designs derived from travelling the world looking for the latest trends, Mr Goodfellow said. "There are many trends currently in world home textiles: Black & white; skins and tribal; textured geometrics; watercolour florals; English romantic; lace; oriental; and peasant, to name a few. We participate in the trends by selling designs that will be the next trend."

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles has doubled in size over the past three years. In 2006, 29,030 visitors from 106 countries and regions as well as from across China attended. The show is organized by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd.; The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; and China Home Textile Association (CHTA).
