The Chinese mainland's imports and exports of textiles and garments topped 124 billion U.S. dollars, up 18 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of this year, according to statistics with China Customs.

It makes up almost 10 percent of the mainland's total trade volume in the same period, which stood at 1.37 trillion U.S. dollars.

From January to August, exports of textile and garments rose 19.5 percent over the same period last year to 112 billion U.S. dollars, while imports went up 4.4 percent to reach 12.5 billion dollars.
